     2.   Review criteria for Secret Education Essay Assignment 
     3.   Focus on thesis: Read sample opening paragraphs from Student #1 and Student #2 and identify and discuss the thesis statements. 
     4.   Look at your own thesis and revise it / refine it. Highlight it on your essay, so that your peer-editor can give you feedback and advice on making sure it is effective and clear. 
     5.   Focus on body paragraphs: 
Body: Develop your idea with details and examples—What does the problem look like?
o   Paragraphs have a clear point
o   Each paragraph develops one main idea
o   Paragraphs contain examples from cartoons or other media and your life
o   Paragraphs contain commentary that shows how the evidence supports your thesis



Peer feedback: exchange essays and focus on the body paragraphs, helping each other to make sure the body paragraphs:
·       include a clear TOPIC sentence (clear main point)
·       develop one main idea,
·       contain examples from cartoons or other media and/or your life
·       contain commentary that shows how the evidence supports your thesis

     3.   Whip- Around: Share out something new that you learned or have thought about because of the Socratic Seminar 

     4.   Hand in your partner observation sheet 

     5.   Post-it notes: write a specific piece of evidence that supports a theme / topic strip and post it on the appropriate strip. Discuss: what have you noticed? 

     6.   Next steps: Secret Education Essay Assignment handed out and reviewed. 

     7.   In your notebook, brainstorm a topic for your essay.

     4.   In your groups, create at least one sentence strip that captures any of the themes we have seen in our viewing of cartoon clips focused on masculinity and Pocahontas. Share out with the class and then post your sentence strip on the wall 

     5.   Prepare for a Socratic Seminar by preparing questions and creating a belief statement using this packet: Socratic Seminar Instructions  

HOMEWORK: Create 3 questions and a belief statement for the  Socratic Seminar on Wednesday, October 31. (See page 2 of the Socratic Seminar Instructions . Read for at least 30 minutes from your SSR book
